Cheers to Delicious UK Craft Beer!
James MacFarlane picks out some of the UK’s favouite microbreweries and their fabulously tasty craft beers…
The craft beer revolution has well and truly arrived in the UK! Forget the big name international lagers that make an appearance in every pub and bar, craft beers can open up a world of taste that you never thought existed in your favourite hoppy brew.
And some good news… there’s plenty of places to choose from around the UK. So, whether you’re living it up in the north or chilling down south, here’s some rather cool beers to tantalise your taste buds this summer.
Moor Beer in Bristol:
Having been taken over in 2007 by Californian native Justin Hawke, the Moor Beer Company draws upon the styles and techniques seen in Germany, America and Britain, as an inspiration to create a fantastic selection of craft beers right in the heart of Bristol. They really are hopping mad over the brew, and you can be certain that every sip has been lovingly and expertly produced. Good news for vegans: all their beers are ‘unfined’, meaning no ‘isinglass’ (fish guts!), which are usually used in the filtration process of beer.

Drygate in Glasgow:
Relatively new to the scene; Drygate opened its arms to Glasgow in 2014, and is the only micro-brewery in the city. You’ll find a great selection from this lot, ranging from the familiar favourites, right up to quirky concoctions such as mango Pale Ale! As well as brewing masters, they are keen educators; running brew days, which allow you to produce your own beer with the team, and learn more about the brewing process. Feeling peckish? Head to the Brewhouse bar and kitchen and pair their beers with some great food.

There are some great beers to try here from the American Pale Ale up to a Weiss beers aged in a bourbon barrel. If you’re looking for a bit of visual stimulation: the designs on their cans aren’t bad either.

Brothers Garry and Matt Fawson have been at the helm since 1995 reviving the brewing roots; winning over sixty awards on the way thanks to their passion and innovation. Expect a friendly Jordie welcome hidden in the depths of beers like the Golden Session Ale up and the much loved PF Pils Pilsner.
