The UK’s First True Capsule Hostel
Just when you thought travelling in the 21st century couldn’t get any cooler, it just did! St Christopher’s Inns is super proud to be the first UK hostel offering the true capsule bed experience…
Breaking boundaries in budget travel, this trendy concept was inspired by the rise of capsule beds in hostels around Japan, China and Singapore – so St Christopher’s Inn decided to bring them to the heart of London (the first in the UK), and installed 26 capsule beds at their award-winning hostel in London Bridge.
What are capsule beds?
The capsules at St Christophers At The Village are hot on quality, design and space, built with the young 21st century backpacker in mind. Tailoring to their needs and demands, the design team maxed out the capsules with the latest technology and coolest gadgets.
Each one is kitted out with mood lighting, with every colour on the spectrum available, controlled by a LED touchscreen wheel inside.
You can even get Facetime your family and friends from the capsule, with Free Wifi and plug sockets to charge your laptop – as well as USB charging points inside, so while you recharge for the night, so does your mobile phone. Additionally, the special ventilation system installed will keep your capsule cool while you snooze.
Each capsule comes with curtains for extra privacy, a thick mattress and an eye-popping art piece of London’s beautiful skyline.
Why are they so popular?
Sophie Herbert, Marketing Manager at St Christopher’s Inns says “Taking travel to the next level, our homely capsules offer ultimate privacy, yet keeping the social and communal vibe of a hostel. Step out of the capsule, and make friends with other like-minded travellers in the dorm. Never losing the community feel that St Christopher’s Inns’ stands for, and that our guests – and solo travellers, in particular – love.”
The capsules boast enough space for you to change your clothes/do your makeup and dry your hair.
We asked a capsule bed customer how she found the new beds. Ellie Roberts, 22, said “The best part for me was that I could get changed in complete privacy, a massive thumbs up.”
How much do they cost?
The capsule beds are priced from £25 per night, pretty cheap – and you’ll refuel, waking up on the doorstep of London’s greatest sights. With the aim to change the false perception of hostels, St Christopher’s Inns honed in on the quality and futuristic design to give guests the best experience possible.
As proven in Asia, the new generation travellers have really taken to this revolutionized way of travelling. The capsules provide the best of both worlds, whether you desire your own space, or to connect with other travellers.
Award winning hostel…
The installation of capsule beds, which are now available to book on the St Christopher’s Inns website, have come shortly after the London Bridge hostel took first prize for Best UK Accommodation in the BETA British Youth Travel Awards 2017.
All rooms are modern, safe and secure, and can only be accessed by digital key cards. We even have private rooms available, for example ‘The Shard’ Room, offering killer views from your private balcony of, you guessed it, the Shard. Talk about hostel goals.
Downstairs, the hostel’s newly revamped bar Belushi’s’ offers its guests a free continental breakfast, late night parties, a great food menu including burgers, live music and DJ’s, sports screenings, free walking tours, beer pong and daily drink deals.
The St Christopher’s App…
To steer our hostels into the future we also launched the St Christopher’s App which enables customers to connect with other travellers staying in the hostel through a live instant-messaging chat, as well as an online check-in service. These innovative strategies were implemented to keep up with developments in technology to bring our young customers the best experience possible, where they can book/connect/check-in from a tap on their phone.
The future of travel…
Would you sleep in these? We invite you to come and test them out at St Christopher’s Inns on Borough High Street. Backpacking revolutionized, say bye to the negative stigma that surrounds hostels. Say hello to the future of travel.
