1. When did you start your travel blog & what inspired you to set it up?
I started blogging in 2014. I decided to leave behind my gruelling 24/7 job in media in London and go away travelling for three and a half months. I set it up mainly as something to keep my brain occupied along my travels through Mexico and Central America. It was only when I returned to London that I started to take it more seriously.
2. Name your favourite travel destination & why.
I really love Mexico – it’s got everything. So much history, culture, incredible street food, beautiful beaches, mountains, deserts and more! I loved visiting the cenotes there. The crystal clear caves / sinkholes are unique to that part of the world and snorkelling in them is a very special experience.
3. Tell us about some of your favourite travel memories?
Last year I spent a month in Indonesia. While in Bali we decided to climb Mount Batur – one of the volcanos there. After getting up at 4am we drove to the base of the mountain and hiked up a very steep incline in the dark. It was really challenging, but watching sunrise with two of my favourite people in the world was totally unforgettable.
4. Which European city do you love most & why?
London is home, and will always be a favourite, but I also adore Barcelona. There’s such a fun vibe in that city. Plus I love the mix of beach and old city, and how creative and arty it is.
5. What’s your favourite travel blog you’ve written called & why?
I really liked writing this one: ‘Girl quits job to travel and lives happily ever after‘
What I do appears very glamorous on the outside but there are dark sides too. I received a lot of nice comments from the blogging community from this one.
6. What destinations are currently on your ‘wish list’?
Japan, South Africa, Thailand and I’d love to see more of South America.
7. What three items are must-bring things for you on your trip (other than the essentials like passport etc)?
Eye mask, music, camera!
8. What’s the best thing travel has taught you?
So many things! I guess the best is about being more accepting of others. I really enjoy learning about different cultures as I travel. It’s often the people that really MAKE a place, and whether that’s staying with a family in Guatemala or going on a street food tour with a local in Seville, it’s a way of learning along the way.
9. What book would you recommend as a good read on a long trip?
I just finished US by David Nicholls (author of One Day). I won’t spoil it, but it’s about a couple going through a hard time who go off on a big European adventure. It weaves relationship themes with travel which, for me, is a dream!
10. Finally, what’s your favourite tipple?
Passion fruit mojito! I love them so much I ended up doing a recipe blog on my site!
